His / their last 4 albums have been release at DR8.
I guess he discovered the big, dirty knob marked EVEN F'N' LOUDER.
DR5 is atrocious. Is it down to ego or insecurity? What does he have left to prove? Considering Tom Petty's music was archived in audiophile quality (before he died), this mastering quality is sadly inadequate.

The story of the Loudness War is often told through dramatic before-and-after examples, but sometimes it creeps in so gradually that we barely notice it.
Willie Nelson’s older 1970s albums, including Yesterday’s Wine (DR14) and Red Headed Stranger (DR12), were highly dynamic recordings.
His later albums reveal a steady, almost imperceptible erosion of dynamic range—a textbook example of how the Loudness War can advance incrementally rather than all at once.

This is an absolute disgrace 😡🤢you would think a guy who made the film "Sound City" about the recording studio of the same name after buying some items from it (including the Neve 8028 analog mixing console) would care more about sound quality. I enjoyed the film and recommend it, but Dave is spitting in the face of music lovers here.
